BuffaloAlarm.com recommends products from manufacturers who stand behind their hardware with solid warranty coverage. This page outlines manufacturer warranties for products we recommend, plus the installation workmanship warranty provided by Buffalo Alarm for local customers.
1. Manufacturer Warranties
All products featured on BuffaloAlarm.com carry manufacturer warranties. Warranty terms vary by brand:
- Ring: 1-year limited warranty on all devices; extended warranty available with Ring Protect Plus
- SimpliSafe: 3-year hardware warranty on all components; lifetime warranty with professional monitoring subscription
- Arlo: 1-year limited warranty; 2-year warranty on Arlo Secure subscription plans
- Reolink: 2-year limited warranty on all cameras and NVR systems
- Eufy: 1-year limited warranty; 2-year warranty on select premium models
- Schlage: 3-year limited warranty on electronic components; lifetime mechanical warranty
- August: 1-year limited warranty; 2-year extended with certain retailers
- Aqara: 1-year limited warranty on hubs and sensors
- Google Nest: 1-year limited warranty; 2-year on some devices
Manufacturer warranties cover defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. They do not cover damage from improper installation, physical abuse, unauthorized modification, or environmental factors beyond the product's rated specifications.
2. Buffalo Alarm Installation Workmanship Warranty
For all professional installation services performed by Buffalo Alarm in Buffalo, MN and surrounding areas, we provide:
- 90-Day Workmanship Guarantee: All mounting, wiring, and physical installation work is guaranteed for 90 days. If any mounting fails, wiring becomes loose, or physical installation issues arise due to our workmanship, we will return and repair at no charge.
- 30-Day Configuration Support: Following installation, we provide 30 days of complimentary support for motion zone tuning, alert optimization, automation rule setup, and app troubleshooting.
- 1-Year Re-Service: For repeat customers, we offer discounted re-service rates if you need camera repositioning, WiFi optimization, or system expansion within one year of your original installation.
3. What Is Not Covered
The following are explicitly not covered by any warranty:
- Damage caused by improper DIY installation of products labeled "Pro Install Recommended"
- Battery degradation over time (normal wear)
- Damage from extreme weather beyond product ratings (e.g., cameras rated to -4°F failing at -30°F)
- Damage from power surges without proper surge protection
- Software bugs or service outages controlled by the manufacturer
- Lost or stolen equipment
- Subscription plan fees or monitoring service interruptions
4. How to File a Warranty Claim
- Locate your proof of purchase (order confirmation email or receipt)
- Visit the manufacturer's support website (links available on each product page)
- Provide your serial number, purchase date, and description of the defect
- Most manufacturers issue prepaid return labels for confirmed defects
- Replacement units typically ship within 3-5 business days of claim approval
For Buffalo Alarm installation customers, we will assist you in documenting installation details and communicating with the manufacturer to expedite your claim.
5. Extended Protection Plans
Some retailers and manufacturers offer extended protection plans for an additional fee. We generally recommend these for:
- Doorbells and cameras in high-traffic or high-vandalism locations
- Systems installed in rental properties with frequent tenant turnover
- Expensive multi-camera systems ($1,000+) where replacement costs are significant
- Customers who prefer hassle-free replacements without manufacturer claim processes
